There will not be much difference you would notice in a normal system. I would go for the bluetooth deck if you need that feature.

is there much of a difference in 5 band EQ to a 7 band EQ?
i mean is it something that you can notably hear?
i ask because theres 2 JVC decks that i like
but one has bluetooth installed but is a 5 band EQ
and the other is a 7band EQ but doesnt have the bluetooth
and the adaptor is an extra 100
so im more or less thinking of going with the bluetooth deck if there isnt that big of a difference

I like the JVC decks because they give you HD built-in (as it should be). However, unless you live in a metro area, you may not find many HD stations...but here for example (in east TN) there are about 15-20 as I am right between Knoxville and the Tri-Cities.
Anyway, I also like decks with built in 7 band eq's which is actually one of the reasons I tend to stick with older Sony ES / Kenwood Excelon. But if a newer deck has this, that is a good thing. The only other feature I tend to require is a high pass filter for the main channels, but this would not be necessary for a sub-less system, or one fully amplified (a 5 channel amp with all controls onboard for example).

If you wanted to stick with a speaker brand primarily, maybe look at Infinity or Polk. For that matter, there is nothing wrong with Sony, Pioneer, or Blaupunkt either. You can mix and match between the subwoofer and the regular speakers as long as you keep the main speakers the same too.

As far as subs go, I highly recommend simply getting a single pre-installed 10" sub/box combo rather than the typical "just gotta do something myself" route, as it is very difficult to get a sub face perfectly installed in a universal (empty box), and even more difficult to port one correctly. Of course the nice looking boxes you see on the forum (like the ones made by Chris for example) look really nice, but will not sound like a traditional rear firing unit, so those are a trade off (sound for cosmetics), but may be enough for you.

Anyway, feel free to email me direct for a quicker response in the future: [email protected]

hey man, i have another question again
what brands would you recommend for a sound system geared towards rock?
im talking stuff like Chevelle, Tool, NIN, Project86 and the like.
im really geared towards bassing out, but i do like the feel of the kick drum in my chest if you know what i mean
right now i have a JVC system that came with the Z when i bought it.
The reciever is pushing out 180w if im correct, but i can only tune the bass and the treble, which i really hate. Im looking at a HD radio from JVC mainly because it has a 7 band EQ...am i thinking in the right direction???
i also do want a sub, but nothing too crazy, just enough to feel that kick drum

I have been reading some of your post and you seem like the only one who may be able to help me. I have a '92 na with bose system. The radio powered on but no sound ever came out so i replaced the HU with an aftermarket. Now sound only comes out of one speaker (driver side door) the other three are MIA. I hear frequency coming out but no actual sound. I have narrowed it down to the factory amps. Can you please let me know how i may get some?? Also my speakers are 4", is there a way that I can upgrade the sizes to bigger a better sounding ones still keeping the factory equiptment or look at least??

I can understand that. I had one guy come from Arkansas one time, which was easily a 10 hour drive, and others from here and there...several hours. But to warn you, wait until at least October or you will roast, lol.

Next time I get a problem with my Bose it may be worth a ride down to North East TN to have you fix it, then to bring it to the local rip-offs here in NJ.
    Thanks again: Jim

You can get a new contact pad. It is fairly expensive (around $75). Othewise you are stuck with trial and error on used pads - and most junkyards won't seperate that from the steering wheel. Even worse, some won't seperate the steering wheel from the whole column.
You can at least pull the wheel off and add new contact grease to the points...may help somewhat.

I have a question about the cruise controls on the steering wheel. You said that the contacts went out, would that be something that i could replace? or am i looking at getting a whole new steering wheel?

And as far as Bose Enclosures go...
Would you like to purchase mine for your projects? They are in good condition.
