Re: ZCON 2010 on TV

Yep, saw it the other day when it aired. Unfortunately, Z32's were chopped liver. If I remember correctly, the only 300's that got any play were a couple of Adam Carolla's retired Nissan race cars (both Z31's). But then again, due to the type of show that is, they naturally will focus on older cars. On an interesting note, I actually have met two of the people that were interviewed (owner of the red 2000 and the white 240 with stripes). Their cars are at ZDAYZ and ECR almost every year.

I remembered that, as well as several static background shots of a really nice burgundy Z32. But not a single word went toward anything made after, say 1985.

Re: ZCON 2010 on TV

I guess I will have to watch it again...Tivo pause and zoom this time around! On a similar note, the way they did establishing shots made it look like there were only 40 cars there.

When watching it, I kept expecting the next interview to be an owner of a Z32, 33, etc. When all was said and done, there was probably no more than 10 minutes of actual Z related programming, 3/4 of it about was about the 2000, race cars, and goofy "it's so hot", weather-speak. But I guess we should be happy they even did that. I am only bitter because I know how much better it could have been, lol.

It should replay on Speed a few more times between now and fall...I would think. Just hit their site for dates.

LOL, so true. But if I remember correctly, he basically says at some point in the interview below that Japanese cars are great for what they are...but he would never have one in his collection (I'm paraphrasing). For now, Adam is the only Z owning celebrity I know of. I believe Sinbad was a big Z32 booster at one time too...not sure about now.

Jay Leno Part II

Re: ZCON 2010 on TV

All - My Classic Car is interested in the older vehicles from the OEMs...that's the primary reason why the piece gravitated toward earlier generations.

Unfortunately, the team and I didn't have much input on the piece. Personally, I'm happy for the coverage, but also disappointed that so much was focused on such a small subset of the cars in attendance.

I completely agree. They focused on cars that really had nothing to do with the history of the Z. Even when I was watching the filming at ZCon that year, I knew they weren't going to cover the Z much when they spent SO much time talking to the owner of the Datsun 2000 more than anyone else. What idiot goes to ZCon and fails to focus on the Z?... oh wait.

The one that knows who his target audience is-and that keeping them and the sponsors happy keeps his show on the air...unfortunately pissing off the Z crowd makes no change in his wallet, so it means nothing to him.

Why do you think SportZ became Nissan Sport-the Z crowd was not big enough to fully support the magazine, so it had to grow its readership to survive.

For all but the true enthusiasts, Money guides the show!
