Just a heads up to all who will be traveling between The Barber Motorsports Park and the Alabama/Georgia State Line.

In the spring of 2010, there was a fatal accident on I-20 caused by a rock/debris flying up from a pothole. At the time, the State of Alabama Department of Transportation made the decision to decrease the speed limit to 55 mph between Oxford, Alabama (officially stated as mile marker 182) and the Georgia State line. The speed limit of 55 mph continues to be in effect along this section of the interstate, which is is heavily patrolled.

This is also the weekend for the Talladega Races (traffic will be heavy), expect to see more Alabama State Troopers patrolling along I-20 since the racetrack is located just off the interstate at the Eastaboga Exit (#173).

Between Birmingham and Talladega, I-20 is also under various stages of re-construction. While it is unlikely that any workers will be present this weekend (double fines if caught speeding and they are present), keep in mind that the reduced speed limits will still be in effect.
